British Columbia is jam packed with a variety of festivals every year, music being among the top. Whether it’s a one day event or a week-long celebration, the vast amount of music performances taking place over the summer can be overwhelming for the festival seeker.
So, to narrow it down, here is a guide to some of the music events happening in the Vancouver area. And the best part is – these concerts are free!
Romantic Waterfront Performances
Location: White Rock - White Rock Museum Plaza
Acoustic performances every Saturday and Sunday in July and August.
July 4 – August 30 2pm – 4pm
Location: West Vancouver - John Lawson Park
West Vancouver’s Summer of Cinema and Song hosts Concerts by the Sea every Friday night in July and August. Bring your chair or blanket to relax and enjoy this free outdoor concert series. Stick around after the performance for a movie showing on the big screen.
Concerts by the Sea starts at 7:30pm
Cinema in the Park will start at approximately 9pm

Relaxing Music in the Park
Location: North Vancouver - Cates Park
Every Saturday throughout July and August, music lovers can enjoy 27 local indie bands and soloists. The performances include alternative, rock, folk, reggae, garage and acoustic. Bring a picnic and spend the afternoon checking out Vancouver’s talent.
July 4 – August 29 from 4pm – 7pm
20th Annual Symphony in the Park
Location: Burnaby - Deer Lake Park
Showcasing the beauty of Deer Lake Park, the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra performs its annual free summer outdoor concert. Under conductor Evan Mitchell, the VSO will perform popular classics on the grass behind Shadbolt Centre. Get there early and bring a picnic.

Exciting International Event
TD Canada Trust Vancouver International Jazz Festival
Location: Vancouver - Various Venues
This year’s festival features over 1,800 musicians from Canada and around the world. With so many artists, it will be easy to find free performances. Some of the free events include large outdoor concerts, indoor concerts and a host of nightclub shows.
